Should Christians Smoke?
Reply Quote
I am also a former smoker. If fact I smoked for 2 years after receiving the Lord as my Savior.  My excuse was that it's not what goes into the cup that makes a man unclean, but what come out, and that's true.   That's when God showed me that smoking for me was my idol.  I would turn to cigarettes instead of God for comfort and to calm me when things got to ruff.  I also smoked as a result of rebellion.  But when I allowed God to show me my issues I was willing to give up what was keeping me for fulling seeing and hearing HIM. I also believe that smoking hindered me from effectively witnessing to many people.  God promises abundant life.  And he stated that with long life will He satify us and show us his salvation.  Smoking shortens life.  So no, I don't believe Christians should smoke.

Thanks for that word. I don't smoke, but now that you say it, that is why I overeat. It is an idol to me. I turn to food instead of God for comfort and to calm me, too. And it is an act of rebellion. It is what I can control in my life. Thank you for a good word. I will take it to heart. Rachel R

I agree with you. As a born again Christian who still struggles with smoking I thank you for your message. I know for a fact that Christians should not smoke because although as you put it it's not about what goes into the body but about what comes out, our body no longer belongs to us. It has become the temple of the Lord, we know how damaging cigarettes can be for our health, therefore we have to stop putting in the temple of Christ anything that could harm it; and that, includes cigarettes. In our Faith we have to turn to God and beg him to deliver us from this evil idol (addiction) that hinders us from being close to him, listening to him and turning to him rather than cigarettes for comfort. To all my brothers and sisters still struggling with this idol, let us all pray together and God will prevail as always. Love. Sister Marie-Aurore
