Pastors should not endorse political candidates. They should preach an uncomprimised Gospel. Voting is something that a pastor should leave to a person's own convictions which if the gospel has been preached will influence their vote. Voting is a private matter and pastors should allow this decision to remain personal.

While I do agree Pastors should not endorse a candidate (unless told to do so by God). I do not agree that voting is a personal matter that Pastors should not address. Naturally speaking, too many people suffered for us to shun our right to vote. Spiritually speaking, Pastors should remind their congregation that they should be seeking God for who he would like us to vote for, who better than God's people should go to the polls and select our next President.

"Told to do so by God?"

I am sorry, but I sincerely doubt that God will endorse any candidate. God is non-partisan, last time I checked. I am truly loathe to hear from so many Christians that God would choose one politician or one political party over another.

That is something very different than if God speaks to you about your own convictions concerning a candidate or some national problem. I do not limit God, but I would be highly skeptical to hear from a preacher, or any christian for that matter, that "God told" them to vote for one person over another.

As mentioned, IF the Word is preached, then that WILL influence the way in which people think and therefore who they vote for. Pastors should not be able to endorse candidates for spiritual reasons: Faith is supposed to be for matters of the heart and of the soul, not of worldly matters like politics. AND also, for political and legal reasons: churches are tax-exempt because of their status as religious organizations and the constitutional principle of separation of church and state. We cannot both wish to benefit from a non-political association that gives us privileges while simultaneously involving ourselves in politics by endorsing one politician over another.

In any case, God will speak to you if you have a relationship with him. There is no need for Pastors to tell you who to vote for, that defeats the purpose of your right to CHOOSE as a part of your right to vote. However, none cane force a pastor not to speak about who they support, after all that is part of our freedom of speech, but there is a line between speaking one's opinion and physically endorsing one politician over another.

I believe that a pastor should NOT At all support a candidate. They should support the reason why it is important to be active in the community, including the abilitiy to vote where it is possible. I have a felony record so i can not vote, but i still can help out in my community. Godly people should use the book of James as an example. To act and not just say oh what a shame.
