i have read mostly from the king james.  my wife uses the nlt.  i preached at a youth service from the niv last night and the message was recieved and God moved.  the power is not in the version although the king james for me is the most reliable version i own.  someone that works with my wife says she does not understand the kj version and my wife recommended the new living.  when the ladys husband found out he was angry and told his wife that its only the kj and if God wanted her to understand she would.(never mind that the king james was commisioned by a drunk, fornicating, english king.)  i would recommend the kj but if you cant keep up with it start with the nlt or the niv or the new kj.  key is to read it, believe it, and walk it.  its Gods word regardless of the time it was translated.

I have read all kinds of Bibles but what I do is use a lot of different Bibles for studying.   The KJV is what I mostly read.  I can't say what is wrong or what is right.  I have been blessed with many but for the most they all have been part of my studies.  I may use them at different times but they are used when needed.

There are times when I am lead to use just one. It is a blessing to see the amount of Bibles that are out there.  Different translations are helpful to many and in many ways.  Leadership Bible, The Word (with 26 different translations) Spirit Filled Life Bible, Life Application Bible Study Bible comes in ( red, green, and blue) the red is the KJV, the green one New Living Translation and the blue one is I think the NIV.  The green one is the one I use most in this selection of it has many footnotes and it excellent for people who are having a hard time understanding the Bible.  I recommned that one still use there KJV with this Study Bible.

We are a blessed people to have so many Bibles at our disposal to be able to  pick and choose from.

I have a KJV and AMP split. Sometimes i have difficulties grasping the way its worded, so I scan over the AMP then back to KJV and it helps. The AMP will put synonyms and expound a little more so you can grasp a better understanding. I agree that the Holy Spirit will guide you through the scriptures and I do tend to always revert all versions back to the KJV, but its nice to read it in other versions as well. I also have a message bible, and NIV. The message bible is great for reading to kids. I also prefer the KJV for memorizing though. It's more poetic and easily committed to memory.

I have heard some say the message bible is of the devil!!! Ha Ha..Those people need better things to do.

No matter what you read, pray and seek God for understanding in all things. (Proverbs 4:7)

I use two versions one is the NKJV Spirit Filled Bible and i also use the Complete Jewish Bible.  The latter was translated from the original Hebrew (Old Testament) and original Greek (New Testament) into English by a Messianic Jew, David H. Stern.  i was amazed at the differences i noticed from the two versions.

Bible Studies.I like the AMP,because you can really understand. It don't matter

what Bible we used, long as we understand what God,is saying to us,and we

apply what we read to our life.

I study from a NKJV but when I research on-line (www.biblegateway.com) it offers every version translation so I can compare. I like the Amplified as a reference because it utiilizes more current language (like the word "compromise" I found only in the Amplified) but I think its important to understand God's Word with all the formal language. Whenever you read, whatever version you read, ask God to give you discernment about the meaning and what Wisdom He wants you to get out of the Word. What looks like a bunch of 'shalts" and "thou"s, will come forth in clarity as you read in the Spirit.

Be ever blessed....In Christ

One historian wrote of King James "He was known as the wisest fool in Christendom.  Sir Anthony Weldon said he was very crafty and cunning in petty things.  Historians consult the writings of Anthony Weldon who claimed that King James had an onoridnate affection toward other men.  The point of my email was not to draw inaccuracies..  I was just saying that the King James is not Holy within itself.  Its a good tranlation of the Holy Bible.  The word of God.  But to answer your writing PeterAV, I do know alot about King James and the wirtings of King James.  He wrote alot about christianity but it is debated about his own life.  Those that think that the KJ is the only Bible to read are incorrect and should understand that there are people that dont understand the Kj and should pray for understanding but not wait to read the word of God.

I am a supporter of the KJV. Mostly because the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance is keyed to the KJ. If you have concerns of certain passages (which all versions do because of denominational or political pressure) you can find out the meanings for yourself. There is a 7 page dissertation written by Tyndale on the cost paid on translating the KJV. I recommend any serious christian to read this! If it worked for the Westleys, Edwards, Spurgeon, and countless others its good enough for me. The important thing is to worship in Spirit and in Truth, for the Father seeks those. Fill yourself with God's word!

I agree, I don't think that the version matters either. Myself I read the King James Version primarily but sometimes I cross refrence with other bibles, I think you get a better understanding like that.

I will use anything BUT the King James Version. I like understanding what I read, thank you. For enjoyment, I read the Good News Bible, the NIV, the Livng Bible, NLT...I don't have any problems with any of the modern versions. I will even read the NKJV McArthur Bible for study.

Strong's do concordances for all the major translations (NIV, NKJV, NASB etc), not just the KJV.

And King James was a Homosexual. Anyone who denies this is ignoring the truth. Just because the KJV has his name on it doesn't mean that he was holy or without sin. He was very sinful, and he used bribery to get the Lords on his side.

The KJV is a beautiful translation (the Psalms are some of the most beautiful poetry ever written), but modern translations are just as good.

Times move on. Do you really think that that in 1,000 years time (if Jesus hasn't returned by then), we will still use 21st Century English? I very much doubt it. The NIV and NKJV will be as outdated then as the KJV is becoming today.

Concentrate on what God wants - salvation.

Though I'm extremely late on this subject, I just thought i might add my two sense in.
I have read from both the KJV and the NIV. The NIV has more words for me to understand, but in translating, some words may have one meaning during a specific time periods and in later times periods mean somthing completely different. The truth will be revealed to you according to God, not the verson that you study God's word out of. Thank God for the Holy Sprit. This is why many pepole can read the same scripture from the same book, and yet some how get different meanings. It is not us that uderstands the word of God, but the Holy Sprit that gives us understanding. Can we not receive revelation from the Holy Sprit in other works or examples other than the Bible? IF this is true than why would we limit the Holy Sprit to one Bible translation.
