Diet and Exercise

Being large, BBW, Ample, voluptuous, thick, etc.

Why women worry so much about their weight puzzles me. The world has given each woman the feeling that only one size is right. Thats not the word of God but the word of the World. It's not wrong to be large. Some men like small women, some like medium, and some love large and larger. I'm one of those who love them large. The Lord loves you "Just the way you are." If you are going to lose weight don't go by the way of the world. Instead of always feeding yourself with food, feed yourself with Scripture, so you can be Spiritually healthy. When spiritually healthy the answers to your problems are at hand. Since the Lord is your Creator, and only Him. In losing weight ask the Lord, not any worldly Dr. The Lord will heal you without the thoughts of Making money. He charges nothing but asks for your faith. Women of God, love yourselves as God loves you. I will not think of you in the negative, as many ungodly persons do. As Christian men we must love the Lords women just as the Lord does. I would never consider your weight something that makes you unattractive until the Lord himself were to say that you are unattractive. Which will never happen. Physically you have your own one of a kind image. People are not made like dolls which all were poured into the same mold. God believes in each individual being one of a kind and a wonderful works of His. See yourself as Jesus sees you and don't put words in there that He himself did not say. As the Lord loves you, so do I. Put Scripture first, and all other thoughts second.

Sounds OK Kevin, but I think we all realise that being obese can cause many health problems in both men and women. I liked that you said to feed on the Scripture instead of food. Good thought, but not easy to do when you have a couple of demanding kids and energy levels are waning. A good talk with Jesus while out walking also works.
Bless ya!

Mr. Knight, I really applaud your post. However, for healthy reasons and healthy reasons only do I feel we should watch our weight and health.  That does not mean you have to be a zero!!!  I appreciate your positive views!!!!

I agree with what Mr. Knight has written we should focus on the Word and not on our weight, but unfortunately the images of the world does have a way to affect the minds of all of us.  There are many reasons why many of our brothers and sisters are overweight - be it medical, psychological, environmental or historical.  The way how an individual views themselves is one of the major factors as to why so many of us (mostly women) are fighting the bulge.  Also, past experiences (i.e. teased as a child, molestation, verbal abuse, rape, etc) also plays a major role – for some it’s the idea of remaining “invisible”.  Unfortunately, the extra weight is a double edge sword – the health issues that are associated with it.  On a personal note, how I fought (and won) the battle of the bulge, is to make sure to 1) take time out for myself – learn to say “No” sometimes and keep a dedicated period of  time (i.e. 30 minutes a day between 6 & 7am) special just for you.  2) During my exercise regiment, think of positive things to say to myself – words of encouragement.  Yes, everything may be shaking and gyrating right now whilst walking on this treadmill, but it will not be for ever - it’s just a matter of time.  3) I listen to inspirational sermons or Gospel music during my exercise.  It helps to reaffirm my existence and purpose in life. It also uplifts my spirit and encourages me along the way (as well as makes the exercise period go by faster). And finally 4) I say a prayer of grace before, during and after the workout – as a means to keep me focused on God and not on the World’s images of beauty and the perfect body.  Those are my thoughts.   Be blessed, be encouraged.

I like what you said that "People are not made like dolls which are all poured into the same mold". Thats very true, some people are born with small stuctures and others are born with larger. I dont think its really about the weight but about how you "carry " yourself. There are those who are " big and sloppy" and those who are "big and beautiful", If your a little on the thick side that doesnt mean just walk around in a momo feeling sorry for your self,  NO, dress your self up, do your makeup (if thats what you believe), perfume, look good. Belive it or not when you start to do these things you feel good about yourself and you create self esteem which creates a new figure in your mind which will then begin to mold the outward apperance. Thats what I began to do and now I've lost some weight and feel real good about my self. Kevin, I also think that was really cool of you to give your CHRISTIAN point of view as a man and not a WORLDLY point of view. I think as Christian Women we tend to forget that the men we seek(Christian men) are not the same men that are setting the standars as to how a woman should look or what size she should wear(worldly men). I tahnk you for being honest and reminding us of the compassion and love that Christian men have.

I have seen too many beautiful, overweight men and women have their lives cut short because of not taking care of their bodies.

I believe that we were all fearfully and wonderfully made... but the problem is that we often times are no longer in the shape that we were made in.

Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. It is important that we do all we can to "keep House"

Don't believe the lie from the enemy that being unhealthy and out of shape is ok if you have a good self image. IT'S NOT ABOUT US! It's all about Him, Right?

Doing things in moderation will help us to recover everything that has been destroyed/devoured by the enemy. The time is over for us not taking care of ourselves then when we die of heart disease, diabetes or have a stroke... and at the funeral we say "It was just their time" or "God called them home." Actually, God probably had more work for them to do and their lives were cut short.

Stay healthy so you can do the work that is your destiny and calling.

Keep Pressin' (Phil. 3:14)

I agree with alot of what you have said. Being satisfied with God instead of food is a big one!! One that I work on myself. We still have to deal with our human side. Our poor human eyes are being constantly filled with "postive" images of thin people, or at least people that look thinner than we think we do. Our society glorifies food. Holiday specials, cookies, cinnamin rolls, even coffee! And what about the famous church potluck(bless)? I would like to lose a few pounds...just because I'm uncomfortable and I know what weight works for me.
Its excellant what you said about Christian men loving women the way the Lord does....if we were encouraged with more of that way of thinking maybe we wouldn't go thru ALL the things we do to try to get the way we"think' we ought to be!!

I gotta say "Amen" to what you are saying as a nurse and the mother of a college softball player. I've seen alot, too. It seems that this "perfect weight" thing is definately multifaceted. Now,women, the emotional beings that we are may not really grasp the fact that being overweight is definately detrimental to your health. I've found that many people just need motivation and a desire to "do the right thing"........and that doesn't always come in positive ways......Now, search your heart....love yourself as is right now,but be still and let the Lord lead you to where he wants you to be...even for your proper weight

God bless everyone who have replied to the discussion board about health and weight loss.  Being a pastor and being subjected to food of all kind every week and especially on Sunday, I want to warn you as Saints of God.  We can get totally out of shape in our bodies and in our minds by opening ourselves to all types of different foods each and every week.  Everyone wants to feed the Pastor, and we feel we must satisfy our people by excepting their imitation to dine out at their home or some resturant after Church.  Wake up Saints and Pastors we are eating ourselves to death, and most of us do not exercise, and this only leads to more problems.  Many of us are dying of Cancer and heart disease, because of our diets.  My Wife and I have stopped this practice, we have gone on a more healthy diet, and make sure we supplement it with the essential Vitamins and Minerals, so we can be free of becoming obese, and living a short life.  set some Goals for your selves and change the way you eat.  I teach a course called 90 days to a healthy Prostate to the men of our Jurisdiction, and I find it is changing the way we as African Americans men, look at our health.  Go to my Website find out more about staying Healthy    www.myvemma.com/jhcloudjr
