Osteen's 'Historic Night of Hope' Draws Tens of Thousands and More
from The Christian Post

Megachurch pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen held  "A Historic Night of Hope" on Saturday night at the new Yankee stadium in New York.

The evening of music and messages marked the first non-baseball event in the new stadium, which opened with the first exhibition game on April 3 and first regular season game on April 16. The $1.3 billion stadium seats more than 52,000 people.

"God is giving us an opportunity - to present the Good News of the Gospel at one of the most storied stadiums in all the world," said Joel Osteen, who leads the largest church in America - the 47,000-large Lakewood Church in Houston.

"[I]n the media capital of the world and at a site dedicated to champions through the ages, we are going to share a message of the Greatest Champion - Jesus Christ and the eternal hope He brings to our life," he added. "What a privilege ... what a platform ... on which to share Jesus with the world!

The event began at 7 p.m. ET, and drew tens of thousands from around the tri-state area and feature a message from the Osteens as well as music from award-winning artists Israel Houghton and Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff.

Though Osteen has been praised by many for his uplifting messages and popular bestsellers, the charismatic minister has also received much criticism for his lack of formal theological training and for preaching what critics call the "prosperity gospel," a belief that prosperity and success - particularly financial - is a sign of God's favor.

Osteen, however, insists that his theology is not "dangerous," as some say it is, and that God has used him to turn people's lives around and to give them hope.

His first book, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential, was on the New York Times bestsellers list for more than two years and has sold more than 4 million copies. His second book, Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day, was released in October of 2007 and was an instant New York Times bestseller, remaining on the list for more than seven months and selling more than 1.6 million copies.

Furthermore, according to Nielsen Media Research, Osteen is the most watched minister in the United States and reaches 95 percent of all U.S. television households.

"Joel Osteen is consistently one of the highest rated programs on TBN, and one of several that has helped TBN become America's most watched faith channel," said Bob Higley, the vice president of affiliate sales and marketing for the Trinity Broadcasting Network, which helped broadcast Saturday night's event around the globe through an exclusive partnership with the Houston pastor.

I got introduced to Joel Osteens ministry when I was incarcerated in a women's federal prison in Ft. Worth, Texas and I haven't looked back since. I have read both of his books and I have been blessed by his simplicity and his effective communication that goes straight to the heart. Only God can add to the church daily and everyone has their place in the kingdom. There are no two ministers alike and everyone must do their part. What I get from him I may not got from T.D Jakes, Joyce Meyers, Eddie Long, etc in the same way. If these so called seminary theological giants paid attention to scripture not one disciple that walked with Jesus went to seminary school. They need to get on their knees and repent for advancing their own agenda and criticizing the man of God that is being led by the Holy Spirit to accomplish the Lords Agenda. May the Lord continue to increase Joel Osteens ability to continue to reach the lost souls of this secaying world.

Joel Osteen was called to preach 'hope' thats it nothing more. He his walking in his calling and what GOD has anointed him to do....not what people think he should be doing. I believe that GOD calls a variety of people for a variety of reasons....Pastor Osteen calling is 'hope'. To help us lift those every burdens that we won't let go and let GOD have his way with. We all need to stop cursing what GOD has blessed. We all need encouraging and Joel has the gift of encouragement...to the glory of GOD.

If GOD so chooses to enlarge his territory even more...who is man to stop that from happening. Lets all rejoyce with our brother. GOD bless you Pastor Osteen and your family always.

I love watching Joel and Victoria Osteen when they minister on their T.v programmes. I believe their messages are the right messages God wants his people to hear at these times of despair, perversed, crooked generation of ours, Their messages of hope lifts and encourages God's people to revitalise and renergise ourselves when the going becomes tough. They should keep on in the grace of our lord Jesus Christ. more grace to their elbows.

When my husband and I first got saved we read several books by John Osteen's Joel's dad. Now 21 years later we get to see his son minister. Although we are members of large a baptist church in the Dallas area, from our own personal study and the quality of teaching we get helps us continue growing in our faith. In our country we are so blessed to have access to the wealth of spiritual teaching in our nation through our church, tv, the internet, cds.
I love that Ps. Joel has such a heart for people, he is an encouraging force that we need. If anyone ever needs to be built up the ministry at Lakewood will do it.

I love Joel and Victoria Osteen. When we can lead a church of that size - then maybe we can say something about what he is doing for the Kingdom. I have been fortunate enough to visit the church on a Wed. night and was in amazement at the amount of people attending in the middle of the week.

Joel is an exhorter and with the mess we have in society today, we need to hear over and over how much God loves us and how he wants nothing but the best for us. God has raised him up for such a time as this and we as "the church" should be very thankful.

I love Pastor Osteen, I was one of those people who put him down because I thought his sermons lacked maturity. God mightily used him when I was down, his messages of hope and of God's love nurtured me back into my relationship with him. I repented for judging him and for pointing the finger at him. Every day I go on lightsource.com just to listen to his choir and to watch how everyone just responds to the love of God. Every vessel is needed. Pastor Joel Osteen and his wife have a great ministry and they are helping others worldwide. I bless the Lord for them, I pray God continue to encourage them more and more each day, I wanted to attend the night of Hope however I had a retreat and I was unable to go even though I still purchased my ticket. One day God willing, I am going to go to his church and worship with them, it's one of my greatest desires. I am amazed at the goodness of God and God is a God who loves the small things, the things that we neglect, the things that we don't see to recognize, He uses. I don't believe Pastor Osteen needs to justify himself to anyone. Let the critics criticize if they have received the mandate to do something better, let them just go ahead and do that.
May God bless everyone.
