Solitary Time With God
Pastor Andre Butler

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.  --Matthew 14:23

Jesus not only went apart to pray but also spent considerable time in prayer. It appears from study of the Word that this was His daily practice; He didn’t pray every now and then or only when He was in trouble.  He would go away consistently to spend time with God.

He was staying full.  If you are to be like Him, then you need that time, also.  You need some time alone with God.   Jesus understood that, so He went out “into a solitary place” and prayed. He communed with the Father. This tells me that prayer is of the highest importance.

It is time for mature saints of God to move beyond praying one hour a day. When you’re first saved, it’s good to start with fifteen minutes or so of prayer a day, but once you arrive at the time when you should be eating meat, you need to increase the time you spend with the Father.

You need to become more and more like Jesus.  Dr. David Yonggi Cho pastors one of the largest churches in South Korea, and he prays two to three hours a day.  In fact, The average member of that church spends an hour and a half a day in prayer.

“Yes, but they live a different life than I live,” you may say. They are people just like you. They have lives just like you have. Seoul, South Korea is comparable to New York. And yet this church has all night prayer every Friday night. It is no coincidence that these people are blessed and have reached the whole country.

You may say, “I can’t see how I can do this.” It all starts with getting an understanding of how important prayer is, then having a commitment to do it, then going to bed earlier and getting up earlier.  You need to be able to get up early to pray!

You will not be where you are supposed to be and you will not experience Holy Ghost breakthrough if you do not increase your prayer life.  Breakthrough happens when you make a firm commitment to spend quality time with God.

Yes, it is time to step up the amount of time we spend in prayer.

Thank you Pastor Butler for the devotion on prayer. It really blessed me this morning and realizing that I need to spend more time in prayer.

This article blessed me. All of us have to be reminded every now and then what is really important. I have to constantly remind myself that all activity is not God ordained activity for me. The demands of ministry obligations, secular workload, and other distractions can steal our time alone with the Father before we realize it. It is one of the suddle attacks the enemy uses to weaken us in our faith. Jesus always found time to pull away from the crowds to a solitary place. Each time , the bible says he ministered healing and deliverance. It is a dangerous thing to get so caught up in building ministries that our relationship suffers with God. I believe many have fallen because of that very thing. If we seek Him and His kingdom , the kingdom of righeousness all these other things will be added to us. Let's not seek him for the ministry but let the ministry be birthed through our intimate relationship with Him. Nothing should be more important than that. Without it , we risk hearing Him say I know you not.

Pastor Butler,

This was indeed a devotional that challenges the believer to rise to a fresh level of time with God. I love Pastor Cho and the ministry of prrayer he embraces and encourages his people to embrace. My husband and I preach the same level of commitment! Bless you as you step over the line so to speak with this generation and call for a renew level of time with God.

Thanks for this Word! This is actually confirmation for me. I just made the decision to make every effort to either stay up a little later at night or get up a little earlier in the morning to spend that extra time with God. I realize that it is a choice that I must make...to be disciplined in prayer...to increase my time with God. I feel there is so much more God has available for us to receive...we just have to go and spend quality time with Him to receive all the blessings He has for us.

Be blessed,
Cedric

I totally agree!! We are so busy we don't take time to pray as much as we should. I believe prayer and praise goes hand in hand. God inhabits our praise. I have the praise part down-packed because I love music so-o-o much. However, my prayer life could be increased. The Bible says "pray without ceasing". If you count my constant talk with God as I'm walking and going through the day, yes, I pray continually. However, I could get on my knees a little more to pray for and meditate on His will for my life. This is another mark I will press toward!!
