Gospel Artists Say They Did Not Lead Michael Jackson to Christ
from The Christian Post

Gospel music artists Andrae and Sandra Crouch did not lead Michael Jackson to the Lord, according to a source close to them.

“It is a rumor,” clarified Dave Nassaney, the administrator for Andrae Crouch’s fan page on Facebook.com.

Nassaney’s statement was backed by one Sandra Crouch issued earlier in the week, in which she said it was “incorrect and absolutely not true” that she and her brother met their “dear friend” so he could accept Christ.

“We loved and respected Michael enormously and we've been friends with him for many, many years, and are deeply saddened by his sudden and tragic death," she wrote Tuesday.

Shortly after Jackson’s unexpected death last week, news spread of the Crouches’ meeting with the troubled music legend, who reportedly asked questions regarding spirituality and even prayed together with the Crouches.

But contrary to what some media outlets have been reporting, there was no reciting of the “sinners prayer” nor did Jackson accept Christ at that time.

“According to Andrae, who was relaying to Verdine (Crouch’s personal assistant) to tell me over the phone just now, Andrae and Sandra did in fact visit with MJ 2 times, once ar (sic) the recording studio, and once at his home in the last 2 months, as recently as 3 weeks ago, asking for prayer concerning the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and how he could make his music more ‘spiritual,’” reported Nassaney in Crouch’s fan page.

“He wanted to know what makes your hands go up, and makes you ‘come out of yourself,’ and what gives a ‘spirituality’ to the music,” Nassaney continued.

“So Andrae and Sandra explained to him about the ‘anointing’ and about Jesus.”

Afterward, Jackson reportedly asked the Crouches to sing to him his favorite song.

“[S]o they sang that song to him, and joined hands and sang together, and he (Jackson) said, ‘it was beautiful,’” Nassaney reported, according to Crouch’s account of the events.

Nassaney particularly emphasized the joining of hands – something untypical of the “King of Pop,” who was as well known for his eccentric behavior as he was for his musical accolades.

Though Jackson became a dominant figure in American popular music and culture in the early 1980s, he “got weirder, wilder and more erratic in his behavior,” as Lisa Anderson, host of Focus on the Family’s “The Boundless Show,” put it.

Anderson said she prayed for Jackson for years after asking God to help her think of the person who she didn’t think would ever come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

“I followed him casually in the news, and it never looked good,” she recalled a day after Jackson’s death on June 25.

“But I continued to pray. Because that's what God called me to do,” she added.

In her account, Sandra Crouch provided a little more detail to the one her twin brother relayed to Nassanaey, reporting that she and Andrae had met with Jackson to discuss recording two songs with their choir for Jackson’s news recording project.

“Michael always had a respect and curiosity for spiritual things,” Sandra noted.

“During our meeting, not unlike many other creative/music meetings we've had with him the past, we sang together, prayed together and had a wonderful time,” she recalled.

But, as Nassaney acknowledged, Jackson “definitely had an ‘encounter’ with them (the Crouches).”

What happened between the time of the “encounter” to Jackson’s death last week is anybody’s guess.

“As of today, I have no idea where Michael Jackson stood spiritually at the time of his death,” confessed Anderson, who also serves as a spokesperson for Focus on the Family.

“But God knows. And God will decide what He does with Michael's soul,” she commented.

“It may sound cliché, but it's devastatingly true: The King of Pop will be called to give an account to the King of Kings,” Anderson added.

According to Jackson family spokesman Ken Sunshine, a public memorial was in the works but it won't be at the Neverland Ranch, Jackson's former home.

Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Jackson's death. Allegations have emerged that the 50-year-old entertainer had been consuming painkillers, sedatives and antidepressants.

Comments:

So, what they are saying is they spent all of this time with Michael Jackson and never introduced him to Jesus Christ at any time or even opened the invitation?! This is very disappointing, but I believe no one knows what Mr. Jackson did in his last day before leaving this earth. I applaud the lady that continued to pray for him no matter what the media reported on him. From his questions to the Crouches, he appeared to be seeking God. What an open door to introduce Christ to him? He was ASKING! Opportunity knocking!

Well first let me say that I am extremely disappointed in whoever wrote this article just by the headline alone. I would have expected to read something like this from a secular person's point of view but to read it on here is just very saddening. We as Christians should know firsthand that there is absolutely no possible way to really know if Michael Jackson was lead to Christ or if he "recited the sinner's prayer" as this article puts it. The only one who knows the relationship between Christ and Michael are Jesus Christ and Michael Jackson, no one else point blank period. Even though at the time the Crouches met with Michael, he was not brought to Christ does not mean that he was never brought to Christ. He could have been born again since age five, but we will never know that. And to write such statements like the ones I read is just heartbreaking because Christians should know better. Since when were the Crouches signed to the duty of bringing him to Christ and that's it? No one else could have led Michael but them? I doubt it, he could have very well brought himself to Christ for all we know. I pray that Michael Jackson is in God's hands and we will all one day see him again in Heaven, but until that day comes the people down here will not know the true relationship that he formed with Christ, no matter what the press think they know about him.

Pastor Lucious Smith ( the pastor who opened and closed the memorial of Michael Jackson) said some time ago, that Michael had such a child-like heart and humble spirit even at age 50. When Michael came to him seeking spiritual counsel he was over whelmed, immediately the enemy tried to make him feel less than, not worthy, or inadequate. But God told him, the last trial he went through was not about him, but it prepared him for this assignment which was life and death and I needed to use every opportunity He gave me to minister to MJ) I allowed the Holy Spirit to stand in me tall." Anyway when he first counseled MJ, He said, God quickly showed him his spirit, he was hungry for God, it was like feeding a starving baby milk, he also was badly bruised both emotionally & spiritually and was held captive by the spirit of rejection. His trust level had been beaten down by life trials. But Over a period of time, as Michael got comfortable he would call him and ask questions about salvation, the anointing, fatherhood, the trinity, all types of gospel music, etc. He would ask for prayer for his kids and himself. However, Michael will never show any sign of response. He went into prayer and ask Lord whats up? He is not coherent. Immediately the holy spirit convicted him and said, I wouldn't be either. You have painted me as this boring plastic God. Make ME Beautiful to him, I am a creative God, I am God with ingenuity and style, observe the things that light up his eyes and use those things as tools to tell my story. So he used Music, Art, Paintings, Humanity outreach missions, laughter, children, and before you know it, MJ was saying, I never knew Jesus was this beautiful, I have not been this happy in 45 years. All this time, i respected Jesus but I was so scared of him because of what I was taught as a child, but i feel as though I can embrace him. Can you imagine Jesus’ facial expression, or joy upon hearing that!

Allow me say, just because Andre Crouch did not lead MJ to the foot of the cross or lead him to answer the clarion call of salvation,(making Jesus Lord over his life) does not mean God did not use another chosen vessel to do so. God is far too wise, sovereign, and selfless to ONLY empower and use 1 or 2 vessels to carry out his assignments or to reach a remnant of people. This is why we called the Body of Christ; His workmanship. For those who are quick to teach hell, fire and brimstone at the unsaved, note He is not seeking a powerful people to represent HIM. Rather, He looks for all those who are weak, foolish, despised, and written off: and He inhabits them with His own strength. Remember, evangelization is a process of bringing the gospel to people where they are, not where you would like them to be… When the gospel reaches a people (or in this case MJ) where they are, their response to the gospel is the church in a new place.

I believe he did love Jesus and asked him into his heart long before his death. If Jesus can and accept the criminals that was crucified beside, then he can forgive and accept anyone in their last hour if they want him.

We as believers shouldcheck ourselves to see if we are truly following him ourselves. Acting like Pharisees or Sadduces or acting we are such scholars of the scriptures will not guarantee us eternal life with God.

We know that fame and popularity don't count with God as He didn't purchase some people's salvation with more of Jesus' blood and purchased others with less blood; He paid the same price for all. However, Jackson's encounter with the Crouches ought to be to us a real awakening to how hungry people are for spirituality. You'd be surprised that a sinner who ten years ago engaged you in arguments when you presented the gospel to him no longer has any arguments and is now hungry to hear you and receive what you have to say. They said Jackson hardly touched anyone but he must have been so hungry to have what the crouches had that he didn't mind holding hands with them to sing and pray. I was feeling bad the crouches didn’t ask him if he had received Jesus especially since he was that hungry and curious about spiritual things as Sandra puts it, until I came across where jackson who said he reads his bible to learn about God, Jesus and love, told Geraldo in an interview that "God is his risen lord and savior Jesus christ." He may have come across Rom 10:9 before making that statement considering that jehovah witness (who disfellowshipped him) don't believe in Jesus' resurrection. Perhaps he had already received Jesus and realized he needed the baptism of the holy spirit and that's why he was requesting for prayer for the anointing of the spirit. No one can live a successful christian life without the Holy Spirit's empowerment that's why Jesus told his disciples to tarry till they be endued with power. Some christians say they struggled with sin after receiving Jesus until they got filled with the spirit. Just guessing it might be what jackson needed and wasn't ashamed to ask for it. Jesus said in Mat 5:3,6 "Blessed are the poor in spirit(those able to recognize their need for spiritual enrichment or the need to enrich their spirit):for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled."

continued…pls let's be sensitive to the fact that a lot of people around us are hungry for what we have. A man said that after watching Passion of the Christ he was so hungry to receive Jesus but didn't know how and what to pray so he googled the internet and said a prayer he found there. If you try to google "how to be born again" you'd see that a lot of people have been doing that because they're hungry. The harvest is riper now than ever.

Below is an info extracted from http://www.thoughts.com/sislt77/blog/did-michael-jackson-repent-accept-christ-330179/

If you doubt the quotations ascribed to jackson you can watch the youtube videos of the interview he had with Geraldo in 2005 and hear from the horse's mouth, jackson himself.

Michael Jackson Confessed Faith in Jesus in Geraldo Interview

Michael Jackson interview- Geraldo pt.2/5
At about 1 min. and 14 secs. he begins to talk about his faith in God and how his faith sustained him. Then at 3:50 he talks more about his faith that influences his desire to care for children. "Caring and reading the Bible, learning about God, Jesus, love. Jesus said to be like little children...We were raised with those values and we continue strong with that today." He said he's "all about truth," that "in the end truth will prevail." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wul1SuWxwIg

In Video Part 3 of 5 he talks about his mother's Biblical influence on him, going to church, and the importance of love. He said he doesn't know if he could have done as well without those values instilled in him. He said he prays and asks God, "Where do you want me to go next, God? What do you want me to do from here?" He said he has always been very spiritual that way, "It's nothing new." -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImqsGbaNOpE&NR=1

For those with access to Sony's website:
Flexx said...

It's funny but during a 2005 interview (available now on the Sony Remembering Michael Page) Michael candidly admits to Geraldo Rivera that his faith is based on Jesus Christ. He openly confesses that God is his risen Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. -- Rev. Flexx, Extreme Youth Ministry /

If they didn't lead him to Christ it is a crying shame that that they didn't make an attempt. Even if he rejected it, at least they had made an attempt to do so. To blatantly said we didn't lead him to Christ sure says a lot about what there ministry is. God help us.

It truly saddens me to see that those who claim to be of the Body of Christ are so full of religious doctrine that they cannot see the truth. Where is our compassion? Where is our love? Where has it gone? More importantly, was it ever there? I read a comment that someone made on another website that asks the question, "If Jesus came back today, would we kill Him all over again?" I'm not saying that Michael Jackson was God or Jesus. The point that I am trying to get across is what does it say about us when someone is tortured, persecuted, ridiculed, etc. right in front of our eyes and we just stand around stiff-necked and passing judgment on someone that the majority of us have never (if we are truthful) really taken the time to know? Just because he was in the secular music industry doesn't mean that God wasn't using him (or that he wasn't saved). What if God gave Michael Jackson his gifts as a drawing card? What if God knew the kind of impact that Michael would have and that people all over the world would want to emulate him? What if God knew that people wanting to emulate Michael and the way that he cared for others would eventually lead them to HIM? Church, we must seek after the spirit of discernment and start looking at people with our hearts.

prettywsulady@hotmail.com, sadly, your response really demonstrates the dangerous lack of proper exegesis of scripture. It's clear you chose to ignore what I beleive to be a balanced response to a situation that should not have arose in the first place, and then erroneously call it "judging." A cursory glance throughout scripture, including the disciples' own words, tag responsibility on the followers of Jesus in carrying forward biblical precepts upon mankind, in conjunction with God's love and grace and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The cross was designed for everyone's flesh to be cricified IN EXCHANGE for the eternal saving grace, love, wisdom, discernment and blessings that God has promised. Love for and loving someone does not negate "the laws." Your own example of Peter here is irrelevant, as you are comparing someone who was an actual follower of Christ (despite is flaws) versus someone who was not. Do the comparision of Peter's story and that on the Jackson family for that confirmation. Atop that, the Crouches themselves clarified that they did not lead MJ to the Lord. Again, I only presented what was in scripture and the media, not my own personal opinion.

I really don't care to debate with you or anyone else at what should be a very basic bibcal beliefs. It's a shameful indictment on the church as a whole that wishes to claim Christ w/o the cross, then blankedly accuse those that are sharing biblcal input to be "judging." The confusion on something so basic as salvation is grievous, and the increasing hostility against Christianity as a whole is happening at a time when "the church" is asleep at the wheel.

I will not be returning to this thread.....no need for a response.

Nadia, I'm sorry that you have not learned that love is the ultimate thing. God gave his son because he loved us. Jesus gave his life because he loved us. Even though you probably only read half of my post; what I was trying to say was that we make coming to Jesus so hard that it turns people away. I don't recall the disciples saying a sinner's prayer. Jesus just told them to come follow him and they did. Salvation is a process, Peter showed us that. Even though he walked with Jesus, he still cut someone's ear off, cursed at people and even denied knowing Jesus. Yet, when the baptism of the Holy Spirit came, he was the main one preaching. I pray for you because how you judge others is how you will be judged. I don't think anyone is going to see your point because even though you put up scripture, you don't have an understanding of God or his heart towards his creation. He loves us and has gone a great length to turn our hearts to him. Like Jesus, I've said my piece and will not continue to argue with a pharissee.

He who has no sin, let him cast the first stone - Jesus

(PART 2) The modern-day babylonian church these days is more interested in chasing money, celebrity and being liked & "inclusionary." As a result, sin has run rampant in the name of "love;" a counterfeit that is w/o repentance, accountability nor regard for God that has sent forward His standards for our lives (the current homosexual movement is the perfect example of this). As long as the salt is w/o its savor, it will be tossed out; deemed no good--Matthew 5:13. As such, "the church" needs to awaken from its slumber to be of any benefit in leading the lost to Christ, which includes considering ALL SCRIPTURE, not jus the parts that produce warmth and fuzz.

Turning my post back to the Jacksons, the prayer should be for their salvation that ALL will come to know Christ, in addition to their receiving comfort and strength during this difficult time. It has been known for decades that the Jacksons were initially involved w/the JWs with some of the siblings pronouncing their faith in Islam years later. Anyone that is truly saved and filled with the spirit of Christ that crosses paths with anyone in this group, I pray that they are led to Christ as the bible outlines. There is simply no more time left for stradling the fence with something so eternally important, and I really wish anyone reading this can see that.

posted by Nadia_1  @ Thursday, July 02, 2009

prettywsulady@hotmail.com, what you consider to be "systematic doctrine" concerning salvation is a paramount must-learn for anyone aspiring to have eternal life. John 7: 7 - 9 lays out explicitly what is to be done for any lost person to come to Christ, with John 3: 1 - 18 going more in depth into PRECISELY how that is done. Any other means at attempts for access guarantees failure apart from what scripture has outlaid. I, nor did anyone else say so, Jesus did.

"The church" has had more than enough opportunity to show its love to the world by proclaiming God's Word; in letting them know that they are loved by The Father, but will be forever condemned for not accepting His Son for his/her personal savior WHILE ADMITTING oneself as a sinner in need of a savior. While "loving someone to repentance" has its place, greater concentration must be placed back on scripture concerning how one attains salvation. As long as parishoners are not keenly versed in scripture and hearing by the spirit regarding this and other matters, it is nothing more than a glorified social club clever at mastering emotionalism on a twice-weekly basis for years on end.

* correction- In regards to if you are near an MJ memorial site, don't snub the mourners, ask God to lead you in how to minister compassion to them.

Just because MJ didn't say the sinner's prayer with Andrae and Sandra, doesn't mean that he went to hell. To be honest, there is no such thing as a "sinner's prayer". There is however, the biblical promise that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. To often, Christians try to make the simplest thing a systematic doctrine. That-- I believe -- is blasphemous towards God. We damn people to hell not because of what the Bible says, but out of our own judgements. I believe that God used that time with the Crouches as a seed. We must be conscious to show the love of God in this time. Pray for the Jackson family. Lastly, work out your own's soul salvation; with all the time people are spending trying to guess where MJ is spending eternity, are any of you sure that you're going to heaven? So the man had problems, we all have problems whether you want to admit it or not. The Bible puts it like this: He who says he has no sin deceives himself and the truth isn't in him. (1John 1:8) We all have something to be saved from. I honestly believe that the Church is being given a chance to show what its really about. Are we like Jesus or are we like the pharisees? I don't want to be about of a church who is cold and callous. Jesus had heart and wasn't afraid to be moved with compassion or to be a conduit of healing for a situation. Too often, we reserve compassion for those we think share our same beliefs. This is partly why the world hates the church now. Let's not disgrace Jesus in this moment, but let's show the world that God does have a heart and he does show compassion. He understands and even feels the pain that people are feeling over this loss and has not left them without a comforter (the Holy Spirit). It's the love of God that leads men to repentance, so lets love people. If you live close to where there are MJ memorials, so snub those that are there mourning, ask God to lead you in ministering compassion.

The one thing we know about this article is that - we now know that I didn't die without hearing the gospel. Also, he and God knows whether or not he decided to accept Christ as his savior. No one on earth can say he did or say he didn't.

This follow-up story confirms what I have posted when this erroneous announcement was first made last week. In the process of wishing for something that never was, the person that put this false information out has beared false witness against the Holy Spirit. This is an extremely serious activity, and far too many people, in their zeal to spread the "good news," participated in the spreading of a lie.

As was said in my last posting, people, please pray and ask for guidance when encountering these stories. Use the discernment God gave you and DO NOT arbitrarily foward messages w/o proper verification. Right now, all manner of unsavory information on MJ is still coming out and will be this way for some time. Please do not participate in the blaspheming of God by endorsing and/or forwarding stories on some famous person supposedly receiving salvation when in fact they haven't.

I have a lot of respect for Michael and his God given talent. I believe he was very innovative in the music business. I believe he had a good life materially, but spiritally, mentally, emotionally and physically he lead a disadvantaged life. Some of this I believe was due to his father, Joe Jackson. But once a person is of age salvation becomes their responsibility. The word of God says what good does it do a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul. I don't know what those last moments of his life were like and at times I found myself praying for him, I pray that he made the decision before his death. Only God knows at this point.
It was 103 degrees one day last week and I commented to a family member that I was glad I was going to heaven because I couldn't stand the 100 degree weather here on earth, so hell would not be the place for me. Hell is not a place I would want or wish on anyone because it is for eternity.
