Survey: Faith of Blacks Grows Stronger, More Orthodox
from The Christian Post

Blacks remain the most religious ethnic group in America, a new study shows.

And over the last 15 years, African Americans have grown even more religious and orthodox in their Christian beliefs, according to The Barna Group.

Findings from surveys that included 1,272 African American respondents reveal that blacks today are more likely than they were in the early 1990s to believe that the principles taught in the Bible are totally accurate; to say that their religious faith is very important in their life; to have a biblically orthodox understanding of the nature of God; and to be born again.

African Americans were found to be the most likely ethnic group to consider themselves Christian with 92 percent saying so. Nationally, 85 percent of Americans in general consider themselves Christian. Blacks were also the most likely to be born again Christians (59 percent vs. 46 percent nationally).

Moreover, blacks had the lowest population of unchurched adults and were least likely to be Catholic.

"While the beliefs and behaviors of America's white population have changed little since the early 1990s, the new research underscored that the faith of African-Americans is dynamic, generally moving in a direction that is more aligned with conservative biblical teachings," the Barna report states.

Today, 66 percent of blacks say the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches. Only 49 percent of the general U.S. population agrees. Eighty-six percent of blacks say their religious faith is very important in their life while 72 percent of the American public says so.

More than four out of five African Americans also say loving God is the single, most important purpose of their life and that God is the all-powerful, all-knowing, perfect creator of the universe who rules the world. Meanwhile, three out of five in the general U.S. population agree with those statements.

African Americans are markedly more religious when it comes to attending church, participating in a small group, praying and reading the Bible.

Data is based on telephone interviews conducted between January 2007 and November 2008 among nine nationwide random samples of adults. More than 9,000 interviews were conducted.

To understand what you are saying I disagree.

Np disrespect to the person who wrote or brought the article.. or to his character of intent about the article.

However, we as Children of God.. should not separate ourselves amongst ourselves by race. The scriptures doe not speak in worldly terms as disparity, disporportionally.. but in terms as ONE GOD.. ONE FAITH and ONE baptism.

African Americans as race of people don't have to explain anything outside of any other race in america.. and for african americans to have to explain or give an excuse or an account for their race, plays right into the promotion of prejustice.. racism..and anything NEGATIVE based upon the secular society images and the world's concept of what race is and is not , who is privileged and who is not..etc., all these things are against GOD as MENTIONED in the sciptures, especially the last three years of Christ.

Again, what was the PURPOsE to SEPARATE african Americans as a exploitation tool up agaisnt any other race of people who attend church? There is NO purpose other than to exploit as the WORLD who exploit RACE..

WE the children of GOd are the inheritance of the Kingdom, GOD set us aside away from the world of secular belief..and so the Kingdom for those who will enter..will NOT be separated by race, or a white race dominated church or a black race dominated church, and so forth..so WE need to be careful and know the difference to educate the SAINT thur GOD's scripture.. as opposed to exploiting the SAINT..by race as a teaching moment.. asking..'DO WE NEED TO KNOW THIS?"

Dear gatekeeper, by anyone's account African Americans have had a bigger hill to climb in this country albeit church world or secular society. Differences will always exist and the way we overcome them is with truth. Speaking of truth, it is the negative portrayal of blacks that has caused such a divide in church. After years and years of disparity and negative reports regarding black people....please allow there to be good, positive encouraging ones. I have met George Barna before and he is legit. This report will actually help to erase the segregation that you mention as the more we acknowledge the good of each other, the sooner we have a chance to come together. Hope this helps to understand. Grace and peace.

I don't understand the article noted here as a reason to make this " a need to know" issue. People of the world will exploit by race..why bring race into God's house? Not unless in God's word or scripture lead by the anointing as a teaching moment for the children of God.

The most segregated hour in america is 11am on sunday in many cases across america..we as children of God's have alot of work still ahead to bridge the gap.
