Have you ever been in a professional setting, was introduced to someone without a context of the work that they have participated in, only later to find out that you were introduced to someone with major influence? I have. It is an extremely frustrating and unsettling discovery. You had in your company a Very Important Person (VIP) and yet, without any consideration, you now have to search your memory bank to see what you said, how you said it, and if there should be any regrets.
The truth is that many of us are mindful of our communication and approach when we know the behind the scenes story of a person of influence. That influence can come from their relationships, levels of resources, positions, or even their skills or expertise. Whatever, the reason when you know that a person warrants special treatment, most people generally act accordingly.
The great truth of the Gospel of God is that EVERYONE could be classified as a Very Important Person. The writer of Psalms 8 makes a clear point. He shares that the Creator of the Heavens and the earth is MINDFUL of us. It literally means that God considers us and holds us in high honor. Another way to say this is that a God that is so big makes man who could be considered so finite a recipient of His unlimited favor. Without prejudice or discrimination, God is an equal opportunity lover. He loves all. As Peter discovered, “God is no respecter of persons.” (Acts 10:34, KJV) When you consider the magnitude of this, it ought to drive you to have a natural love for people because we cannot afford to offer any less of an approach than our Master. If He’s mindful of each one of His creations, we too must offer this same level of consideration. The author of Hebrews carries it even further by sharing that many of us have, “entertained angels without realizing it!” (Heb. 13: 2, NLT)
What’s the best way to be mindful of people and exhibit of a natural love for God’s people?
1. Honor
It becomes easy to honor people when you honor God first. As you honor God and allow The Holy Spirit to guide your interactions, you’ll have the unique ability to honor God’s most prized possessions – people.
2. Humility
You shift the focus of conversations, interactions, and exchanges from yourself to others. In an intensely competitive society that promotes self, humility challenges you to humble yourself and allow God to have your back while you help serve others.
3. Helpfulness
Have you ever really wondered what natural skills you possess that could help enhance the lives of others? There are indeed some gifts and abilities that come easy for you that God has loaned to you to better the lives of others.
As the Psalmist shares with us God’s glory revealed in nature, God enables us to release His glory and reveal His power in our utmost respect and treatment of God’s VIPs – everyone. Today, roll out the red carpet and pull out the fine china, you’ve got Angels waiting on you.
Scripture of the Day: "When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" - Psalm 8:3-4
