Imagine serving a prison sentence of 25 years or more and then being told that you are about to be released from prison. Picture the prison guard coming to your cell, unlocking the door, opening it and telling you that you are free to leave. Would you sit in your cell and refuse to leave the jail cell? Of course not!
After years of being held captive behind prison bars, you would run out of that cell, excited because you would finally be able to partake of the liberties that come with being a member of society. The same is true when you become born again.
When you accept Jesus into your heart by faith, you are set free from the bondage of sin, sickness and disease. Instead of being held captive by sin and its effects, you have a choice; you can walk away from sin and live above the law of sin and death. As a Christian, you have the power in your spirit to live on a higher level; you don't have to sin unless you want to. In addition, you don't have to feel condemned when you miss the mark; Jesus' blood washes your sins away. Best of all, when you repent, He forgives you and cleanses you of all unrighteousness.
The devil will try to keep you locked in a prison of condemnation when you make a mistake, but God doesn't want you walking around feeling this way. Romans 8:1, 2 says, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Once you invite Jesus into your heart, you become subject to a different set of spiritual laws. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus eradicates the condemnation that comes from sin. In Him you have freedom from the prison of condemnation, but you have to receive it by faith. The scripture says that Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10), not God. When you repent and ask the Father to forgive you, the Word says that He is faithful and just to do so (1 John 1:9).
The good news doesn't stop there! As a Christian, you don't even have to sin if you don't want to. Your spirit has literally been translated out of the kingdom of darkness. That means that unlike the man or woman who doesn't know the Lord and has no capacity to control his flesh, you can avoid temptation and prevent sin from ruling your life. By making the Word of God your final authority and by meditating and applying scriptures that pertain to your situation, you are equipped to handle anything the enemy throws your way. When Satan suggests something to you in the form of an ungodly thought, immediately cast it down with the Word of God. In doing so, you will be able to maintain the freedom that Jesus purchased for you with His blood.
Christianity also affords you freedom from every byproduct of the kingdom of darkness—sickness, poverty, spiritual and mental oppression and failure. God's salvation package includes everything you need to experience abundant life— wealth, health, a great family and marriage, long life, protection from danger and success in every area of life. He has equipped you with the ability to get positive results in everything you set your hands to do the moment you make Jesus your Lord. Not to mention, you will live eternally with Him in heaven!
If you're stuck in a life of bondage and oppression, you don't have to stay there. To live that way as a child of God is an indictment against a loving Father who wants to do you good and make you happy. Lay hold of your freedom today by studying the Word of God and learning about all your covenant benefits. You can live a life of absolute freedom. The jail cell has been opened; all you have to do is step out into the life of liberty that now belongs to you!
Scripture Of The Day: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." - Romans 8:1 (KJV)
